الأصلBorrowed from Aramaic חְלָזוֹנָא / ܚܠܵܙܘܿܢܵܐ (ḥəlāzōnā, “snail”). This has been reckoned to be from Ancient Greek ἑλικών (helikṓn) or ἑλικόν (helikón), but visibly it bears the diminutive ending -ōnā, relating to a base verb “to crawl”, see حِسْل (ḥisl, “young of a spiny-tailed lizard”).
