UrsprungFrom Old Swedish Roþ(r)in, definite form of Roþer (which is formally identical to the common noun roþer, meaning “rowing”). The region was apparently so named because the adjoining seas were used by the Svear for naval expeditions.
- neuterA historical region on the coast of Uppland.
