[ˈtɛlɛk]
EredetThe etymology is disputed. It has been derived in at least three ways:
* From the same Proto-Finno-Ugric root as the verb telik (“to fill”).
* From tel (“ground, soil”) + -k (noun suffix). For the same suffix, compare lélek (“soul”).
* From Oghur *tilök “separated (area)”, from Proto-Turkic *til (“to cut”), via Old Hungarian telük. In this case, possibly cognate with Kyrgyz тилке (tilke, “parcel, lot”).
- lot (US), parcel (of land), plot, piece of ground (an area or land used for building on or planting on)
- form-of, nominative, pluralnominative plural of tél
- first-person, form-of, indefinite, indicative, presentfirst-person singular indicative present indefinite of telik
