/ˈvaː.rɪk/
OriginFirst attested as feldrike in 968-971. Perhaps derived from Latin Valerius (a personal name) suffixed with Gaulish -acum. An alternative etymology interprets the toponym as a compound derived from an unclear first element and the suffix Proto-Germanic *-ikja-. Compare Blerick, Bunnik, Cuijk, Geverik, Lopik, Maurik, Mook, Niftrik, Odijk, Woezik and Fellerich.
