These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding contract between you and wordle.global ("we", "us", "our") and govern your access to and use of the wordle.global website, game modes, apps, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you don't agree, do not use the Service.
1 · Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if that's higher. Users below that age may use the Service only with verifiable parental consent and active supervision. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn a user is under 13 we will delete their account and data promptly.
2 · The Service
wordle.global is a free daily puzzle platform offering word games in 80+ languages. Game modes, languages, features, infrastructure, and availability can change or be removed at any time without notice. Portions of the Service may, in the future, be offered on a paid basis ("Premium") with additional terms presented at the point of purchase.
3 · Your account
Accounts are optional. If you create one, you are responsible for the security of your credentials and all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings; deletion is permanent and removes your personal data subject to the retention rules in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, behave abusively toward other users, place undue load on the infrastructure, or attempt to circumvent access controls. Termination does not entitle you to a refund unless required by law.
4 · Acceptable use
You agree not to, and not to attempt to:
- automate, scrape, crawl, or otherwise access the Service at a rate or volume that exceeds ordinary personal use, including operating bots, headless browsers, or scripts against our APIs;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service except where such restrictions are prohibited by applicable law;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, breach authentication or security measures, or access data not intended for you;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service, including through denial-of-service or similar attacks;
- submit content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, sexually explicit, infringing, or otherwise objectionable;
- impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;
- use the Service to distribute malware, phishing content, spam, or unsolicited advertising; or
- use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.
We may remove content or restrict access immediately and without prior notice for suspected violations. Egregious or repeat violations result in termination.
5 · Your content
"Your Content" means anything you submit to the Service — comments, bug reports, feedback, suggestions, language-data contributions, and similar. You retain ownership of Your Content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, irrevocable licence to host, store, reproduce, modify, display, perform, translate, create derivative works from, and distribute Your Content in connection with operating, improving, and promoting the Service. This licence is necessary for the Service to function (for example, to display your comment to other players) and to let us moderate or remove content.
You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to submit Your Content and that Your Content does not violate these Terms or the rights of any third party. We do not pre-screen user content and are not responsible for Your Content or the content of other users. We may remove any content at our sole discretion.
If you submit suggestions, ideas, or feedback, you agree we may use them without any obligation or compensation to you.
6 · Our intellectual property
The Service's name, logo, design, user interface, game-mode implementations, daily puzzle generation, editorial copy, word illustrations, and software are our intellectual property or are licensed to us. Except for the limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, we reserve all rights.
Word illustrations on the Service are generated via licensed third-party AI image APIs (OpenAI and Google) using prompts authored by us; under those APIs' terms of service, usage rights in the output are assigned to us. We claim copyright in the curated collection, selection, prompt authorship, and presentation of those illustrations, and in any human-edited variants. Raw AI-generated output may not be independently copyrightable in every jurisdiction; where it is not, the above compilation and curation rights still apply. All illustrations are © Wordle Global; for licensing enquiries, email contact@wordle.global.
Some components of the Service incorporate open-source data and code under compatible licences — including kaikki.org (CC-BY-SA), Natural Earth (public domain), Wikidata (CC0), Circle Flags (MIT), and contributor-submitted language data from our original 2022 open-source repository. A list of attributions is available at github.com/Hugo0/wordle/blob/main/CONTRIBUTORS.md.
7 · Third-party trademarks and non-affiliation
wordle.global is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The New York Times Company or any other game publisher. All trademarks, service marks, and trade names of third parties referenced on the Service — including WORDLE®, CONNECTIONS®, STRANDS®, and SPELLING BEE® — are the property of their respective owners and are used on the Service, where at all, in a descriptive and nominative fair-use capacity to identify the category of puzzle games in which the Service operates.
The domain wordle.global was registered and went live in January 2022, prior to the acquisition of the original Wordle game by The New York Times Company on 31 January 2022. Any game-mode implementations, puzzle generation, content, word lists, illustrations, and editorial material on the Service are independently developed or licensed from compatible open-source sources; we do not copy, display, or redistribute proprietary content belonging to third parties.
If you are a rights holder and believe the Service uses your marks in a way that exceeds descriptive or nominative fair use, please contact us at contact@wordle.global and we will respond in good faith.
8 · Copyright infringement · DMCA
We respect the intellectual property of others. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a notice to our designated agent at contact@wordle.global containing:
- a physical or electronic signature of the person authorised to act on behalf of the owner of the exclusive right that is allegedly infringed;
- identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
- identification of the allegedly infringing material and information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it (URL preferred);
- your contact information, including address, phone, and email;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
We respond to complete and well-formed notices within a reasonable time. We reserve the right to remove or disable access to material allegedly infringing and to terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
9 · Purchases (when applicable)
If we offer Premium or other paid features in the future, purchase terms (including price, duration, renewal, refunds, and consumer-withdrawal rights required by law) will be presented at checkout and form part of these Terms by reference. For EU/UK consumers, applicable distance-selling and consumer rights will be respected in full.
10 · Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, TITLE, OR UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS ANY WARRANTY OR LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE CONSUMER LAW.
11 · Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER WE NOR OUR AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, STATUTE, OR OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) EUR 100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in those jurisdictions, the foregoing limitations apply only to the fullest extent permitted by law.
12 · Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless us and our officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to (a) Your Content, (b) your use of the Service, (c) your breach of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
13 · Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from settings. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law, or if continued access poses a risk to the Service or other users. Sections 5–7 and 10–17 survive termination.
14 · Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. To the extent permitted by law, the courts of Lisbon, Portugal have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence, this clause does not deprive you of that right. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
15 · Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material we will give reasonable advance notice by posting a notice on the Service or, for account holders, by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the changes means you accept the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
16 · Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any additional purchase terms are the entire agreement between you and us concerning the Service.
Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force, and the unenforceable provision will be modified only to the minimum extent necessary.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Force majeure. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control (including internet outages, third-party service failures, natural disasters, and government action).
Binding language. The English version of these Terms is the legally binding version. Translations are provided for convenience only.
