/ˈɑhɑʋɑ/, [ˈɑ̝ɦɑ̝ʋɑ̝]
AlkuperäFrom Proto-Finnic *ahava (compare dialectal Estonian ahav, Karelian ahava, Votic ahavõ, Veps ahau), of unknown further origin. Appears to be analyzable as containing the adjectival/participle suffix -va, but no root word *aha is known. First attested in Daniel Juslenius: Suomalaisen Sana-Lugun Coetus ("Attempt at Listing Finnish Words", 1745).
- dry and cold wind, especially in the spring
- weather-beaten skin; often a consequence of the combined effect of the brightness of the sunshine enhanced by the reflection from the snow, and the coldness of the wind
