OriginFrom Proto-Finnic *käüdäk (“to walk”) (compare Karelian käyvvä, Estonian käima), from earlier *käwe-, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *skēwijaną (compare Gothic 𐍃𐌺𐌴𐍅𐌾𐌰𐌽 (skēwjan), Old Norse skæva).
