In Finnish, the meaning has abstracted from the original “shaft bow” → “group of things (attached with a shaft bow)” → “group, class”. The semantic widening is probably the reason why the original meaning “shaft bow” is now usually expressed in Standard Finnish with luokki, originally a dialectal variant.
