AlkuperäFrom Proto-Finnic *püütädäk (“to hunt, fish”), from Proto-Uralic *püwtä- (“to hunt, fish”). The senses "to ask for, request, invite" have developed from this earlier sense, possibly also under the influence of similar-sounding Germanic words like Swedish bjuda (from Proto-Germanic *beudaną).
