AlkuperäFrom Proto-Finnic *sarja (“lath board, row of laths; row, bunch”), from Proto-Finno-Permic *śarja (“lath, batten, bar”). Adopted as an equivalent to Latin series in the literary language based on the original meanings "row, bunch" and the sense related to chicken eggs listed below which can also be found in the other Finnic languages.
