Dominoes is a daily domino puzzle. A rail of dominoes sits under a board of cells divided into outlined regions, and each region carries a rule: a bare number is the total of the pips inside it, a less-than or greater-than sign bounds that total, an equals sign means every half inside shows the same value, and a not-equals sign means they all differ. Cover every cell using every domino. A domino may straddle two regions, and each half answers to its own - which is what turns arithmetic into deduction. Drag a tile from the rail, rotate it, drop it; tap a laid domino to pick it back up. Regions tint when satisfied and outline only when nothing could still rescue them, so the board never calls you wrong while you still have a way out. Free, no account, and the same board worldwide.

How the Domino Puzzle works

Dominoes is a domino puzzle. A rail of dominoes sits below a board of cells, and your job is to cover every cell on the board using every domino on the rail - no cell left bare, no domino left over.

The board is divided into outlined regions, and each region carries a rule printed in its corner. A bare number is the total of all the pips inside that region. < and > bound that total instead of fixing it. = means every half inside the region shows the same value, and means they all differ. A region with no marking is free - it is the parking space for an awkward half.

A domino may straddle two regions, and when it does each half answers to its own region's rule. That is what makes the puzzle more than arithmetic: one tile can be the last piece of two different arguments at once.

Drag a domino from the rail onto the board, or tap it and then tap where it should go. Rotate turns it between across and down, Flip swaps which half leads. Tap a laid domino to pick it back up. On a keyboard, arrow to a cell, press R to rotate, F to flip and Enter to lay.

Regions tint as soon as they are satisfied, and a region outlines only when no arrangement of the remaining dominoes could still rescue it - so the board never tells you that you are wrong while you still have a way out.

Every board is run through a solver before it is published, and only boards with exactly one solution are served. The daily board is the same for every player in the world - Dominoes uses dominoes, not words, so only the interface translates. Count the rail's total first

Add up every pip on the rail. That number is fixed, and it has to be distributed across the regions - so the sums printed on the board already tell you how much slack the free regions have to absorb.

Equal regions pin a value, not a tile

An equals region tells you every half inside it shows the same number. Once you know which number, you know exactly which rail tiles can reach it - usually a very short list.

Not-equal regions run out of alphabet

Pips — the dots — only go from 0 to 6. A not-equal region with five cells needs five different values, which rules out far more placements than it first appears to.

Greater-than is a floor, not a target

It is tempting to treat a greater-than region as if it wanted a big number. It only needs to clear the bound - spending your high tiles there is usually how the exact-total regions end up unreachable.

Let the board tell you when you are stuck

A region only outlines when no arrangement of what is left could still save it. If nothing is outlined, your current board is still a live position, and the piece to move is elsewhere.

What do the symbols in each region mean?
A bare number is the total of the pips inside that region. A less-than or greater-than sign bounds that total rather than fixing it. Can a domino cross between two regions?
Yes, and it usually has to. When a domino straddles a boundary, each half answers to the region it lands in - so one tile can be the final piece of two separate rules at the same time.
Is there always exactly one solution?
Yes. Every board is run through a solver before it ships and only boards with a single solution are published. The one exception the rules cannot see is flipping a domino whose two halves sit in the same region, which no rule could ever distinguish - both ways count as solved.
