The capitals quiz is a daily geography game: five countries, shown by flag and name, and you name the capital of each. Ten guesses cover the whole round, and every wrong capital tells you how far away the right one is and in which direction. Capitals are accepted in your language, in English and in the local spelling, and countries with several capitals accept all of them. Five countries a day, the same for every player in the world, with an unlimited mode for practice.
Five countries a day, the same five for every player worldwide. Each one is shown by its flag and its name in your language; your job is to type its capital city. You have ten guesses for the whole round — five right answers and five to spare — and you can tap any country you have not named yet to answer it next.
A wrong capital is still information. Every miss returns the great-circle distance in kilometres from the city you typed to the right one, a compass arrow pointing at it and a heat band from cold to burning — the same hints as Globle. Guess a capital you know near where you think the country is, and the arrow walks you the rest of the way.
The round runs from more familiar countries to less familiar ones. Capitals are accepted in your language, in English and in the local spelling — Wien and Vienna are the same answer — and accents, capital letters and small typos do not matter. Countries with more than one capital, such as Bolivia or South Africa, accept every one of them.
Tap past a country that stumps you and bank the capitals you are sure of first. A guess spent on a blind try is a guess the easy ones cannot use.
If you know the region but not the city, type a capital you do know nearby. The distance and the arrow from it often narrow the answer to one or two cities.
Australia, Canada, Brazil, Turkey, Nigeria and Pakistan all govern from a planned or smaller city rather than their best-known one. When a famous city comes to mind first, check whether it is the trap.
Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Tanzania, Burundi and Equatorial Guinea have all moved their capitals in living memory. The name you learned at school may be the old one.
