How to Play Waffle Unlimited
Waffle Unlimited plays the 5×5 letter-swap crossword on demand. Each round scrambles six fresh interlocking words, hands you 15 swaps (par 10), and lets you keep going as long as you want. Same star system, same lock-green rule, same colour feedback. Free in English and 72 other languages, no ads during play.
How Waffle works
Every day a 5×5 waffle is built from six interlocking 5-letter words — three across (top, middle, bottom) and three down (left, centre, right), sharing letters at the nine intersection tiles. The 21 letters are scrambled into a puzzle that's solvable in about 10 swaps of perfect play; you get 15 swaps before the run ends.
Each tile colours itself against the solved grid: green means the letter is correct for the row & column it sits in, yellow means the letter belongs to the word but in a different spot, and grey means it doesn't belong to either of its two intersecting words. Green tiles lock — tap them and nothing happens. Tap any two non-green tiles and they swap.
The large number under the grid is swaps remaining, the same readout wafflegame.net made famous. Solve in 10 or fewer to earn all five stars; each extra swap peels one star off (0 stars at 15 swaps is still a win). The star rating travels with your share text so friends know the effort, not just the result.
Per-language, not English-only. The daily waffle for Spanish, German, Turkish, Finnish, and every other supported corpus is built from that language's native 5-letter daily pool — no translated word lists, no awkward anglicisms. Unlimited mode gives you an endless stream of fresh grids from the same pool; the daily streak tracker ignores unlimited results so you can practice without risk.
Tips & Strategy
Scan every green tile first and reconstruct which row and column it anchors. If a green I sits at row 3 column 5, you know the middle-across and right-down words both end with I. That prunes huge chunks of the search.
Attacking the grid holistically burns swaps. Pick a row or column with the most greens already placed and finish it completely before touching anything else.
Every swap trades two tiles. Try to ensure at least one side of the swap lands in a slot where it turns green. If both sides land somewhere yellow you've spent a swap and learned almost nothing.
Nine tiles sit at the intersection of a row and a column. A single correct swap there can turn both words' clues at once — prioritise these when you have multiple candidates.
Yellows hold information — they tell you which row or column a letter belongs to. Moving a yellow to a random new slot risks converting it into a grey. Move yellows toward the slot you already believe is correct, not away from it.
